Structure Community of Gastropods and Bivalves in Sabang Coastal

By Chitra Octavina, Muhammad Irham ,& Dwi Zhahira Feriska

The coastal expanse of Sabang City boasts a rich array of mollusks, particularly from the Gastropoda and Bivalvia classes, which play pivotal roles in ecological dynamics. This study endeavors to delineate the structure of the mollusk community by employing density analysis, discerning distribution patterns, and evaluating biological indices. The research methodology encompassed purposive sampling, executed in two phases: first, acquiring water parameters, and subsequently, sampling Gastropods and Bivalves.

The investigation, conducted across three observation stations within the waters of Sabang, including Anoi Itam Beach and Lhok Weng Waters, unveiled a total of 19 Gastropoda species, representing 10 families, alongside 2 Bivalvia species from 2 families. The apex density of Gastropods and Bivalves was recorded at station II. Gastropoda exhibited a clustered distribution pattern, interspersed with some instances of uniform dispersion, while Bivalvia predominantly displayed uniform distribution tendencies.

The diversity index (H') of Gastropoda trended towards high values, contrasting with the relatively low indices observed for Bivalvia. Moreover, the uniformity index (E) indicated balanced distributions among Gastropoda groups, whereas Bivalvia exhibited less uniformity. Additionally, the dominance index portrayed low dominance among Gastropoda, whereas Bivalvia displayed higher dominance.

Water quality parameters indicated favorable conditions, remaining within the tolerance thresholds of both faunal groups. Consequently, the overall community structure of Gastropods and Bivalves along the coastal region of Sabang City leans towards stability and balance.
